Dear Fred

My 17 year old daughter, a great kid, good student, won't talk to me about the specifics of her school work. How can I get a dialog going about her classes?

Fred's Response

There comes a time when young people create their own support systems. If she is doing well in school and exhibits no serious behavioral or attitudinal problems perhaps she is just growing into adulthood. Mary Alice and I found that we had to move to wisdom figure with our children. This was particularly hard for my wife for she loved the close relationship that she had with the children. Let her know that you are open to conversation, but then trust her. She will probably be leaving your home soon and you want her to be an independent woman. Pray for her and show her that you are proud of who she is becoming.
