In order to assure that the speech is meaningful to the audience, the speaker must be conscious of talking to the audience about a subject, not talking about a subject to the audience. The primary interest of the speaker must always be the audience. And with this in mind, I always remember that a good speech seeks to express, not impress. Unfortunately, I have listened to some young preachers who talk about their interest in the book of Romans, for example, rather than the value of Romans to the audience. They are generally repeating a professor's lecture. Focus on the who before getting caught up in the what.
