Dear Fred

if the Holy Spirit is the instrument of ilumination of the Holy Bible why are there so many differing views of the very basic issues of the faith?

Fred's Response

In the first place it is due to so much human involvement rather than Spirit leadership. It seems to me denominational leaders either want to be the discoverers of special truth or perpetuators of revered ideas. If you proof-text the Bible, you can come up with very strong arguments for various concepts. For example, baptism. A sincere belief does not necessarily make it true. I have a theory that God permits all of the different denominations to keep us all from being in one organization with human leadership, exercising pride and power. The way it is, the leadership is dispersed among believers.
