Dear Fred

I am involved in a non-profit organization (Youth for Christ) where I am responsible to raise my own support while doing my ministry. I have only been able to raise half of my monthly support and I have been stuck at this position for almost two years. What tips do you have in raising support in Christian non-profit organizations?

Fred's Response

When I was chairman of national Youth For Christ, I saw young people facing this dilemma frequently. Often, they spent most of their time pursuing support and had little time left for genuine ministry. Obviously, God has tied money and ministry together. If you are having too much trouble raising support, I would ask myself if this is really something that the Lord wants you to do – or is it just something that you want to do? Have you listed those who have a definite interest in ministering to the young but do not have the skill or time? They may be able to contribute to you to do it while they cannot. Have you thought of how you can minister to those who will be able to reciprocate to you? Have you thought about ways of making your supporters an intimate part of the work so that they get excited about the work that is being done? Are prospective supporters really seeing your ministry validated? How are you building a network?
