Dear Fred

How does having expectations and showing grace intertwine in relationships?

Fred's Response

It is important that we have rasonable expectations in any relationship. we have to realize that a relationship is mutual, not unilateral. Each has the option of what is brought to the table. Seldom is it absolutely equal. We are not controlling the relationship but participating in it. A failure of the other person may not be a failure to them but a normal reaction. our definition of expectation may not square with their idea of obligation. where there is a difference recognize it as a difference and not a failure. In those times when it obviously an act of irresponsibility then we have to be forgiving of the other person as much as we would like to be forgiven. I think our responsibility is to be an instrument of God's grace and a reflection of the grace that He has shown us.
