Dear Fred

What are your thoughts on executive/leadership coaching and the demand for it in the market?

Fred's Response

There is great usefulness in effective coaching. I personally prefer the apprentice system where you work for someone who will let you practice your learning while coaching you. In other words, an inside boss rather than an outside coach. The coach can effectively help in specific areas such as life strategies, skill identification, financial responsibility and character development. For help in improving your own coaching if that is your path I suggest that you check out the coaching program at Crystal Cathedral or the Christian Coaches Network. I personally believe that every coach needs a coach. Currently leadership is the hot topic and anything that any of us can contribute will be welcomed. Coaching is a specific activity and so needs to have an identifiable market. We need to know the area in which we are most proficient. It would be helpful for you to further define your leadership expertise.
