Dear Fred

I want to be the very best I can be in my workplace. What, in your opinion, do you think is the most important starting element, and the most important in betweens, that make a difference that matters?

Fred's Response

The most important thing you can carry to your job is a positive attitude toward the challenges you will face and genuine friendliness with your associates. Realize that you create an environment that is either healthy or unhealthy. As to your job—there is always room for improvement in your skills. Be specific in the things you want to improve. Take joy in the accomplishment of these improvements. Remember, if you are normally accomplished in your work, improvements will be small and generally slow. Have the patience and determination not to give up. Don’t let it concern you if you do not receive compliments as you think you should. You know the truth of what is happening and how you are making it happen.
