Dear Fred

How would you suggest that I overcome, or change my critical attitude? I know it affects my ministry, and how I relate to people. Thanks for any help on this subject. Also, I listened to your short audio comments. I was particularly interested on the one about character. You mentioned that no one had asked you for help with their character. In that case I will ask. I have been on a constant, conscience quest to improve my charater for the last several years.

Fred's Response

Rev. Brian, fortunately we can choose our attitude - either to be positive or negative. It is a decision that is not always easy to follow sometimes, but it can be done particularly with the Holy Spirit's help. Character has many elements - all of which are personally controlled. Don't forget that you are currently getting a benefit out of your current behavior. You must swap that one for a greater benefit in an improved character. You must see yourself in control of your attitudes and behavior. It helps a Christian to realize that God sees and knows our motives in life. In my experience I have seen people who are not well-developed in their character and thus look like a grapefruit with good character segments and not good character segments. The goal is to be whole. Your awareness of the need for good character is a great starting place. Bless.
