Dear Fred

One of the"Daily Fenelon" writings is on amusements. In it is mentioned 'innocent amusements'. What constitutes 'innocent' amusements? Does this negate movies, music, etc. outside the church 'curriculum'?

Fred's Response

A friend of mine said he tried to realize that the Holy Spirit was within him and didn't want to take the Spirit any place where he would be offended. Sometimes we are too puritanical in evaluating innocent amusements, but certainly we don't want to fill our minds with garbage. Remember the computer adage: garbage in, garbage out. But as a Christian you have quite a bit of latitude to decide what is permissible for you as long as it doesn't violate scripture or other Christians. I would strongly advise against betting or other addictive amusements. There is freedom in Christ but with freedom comes great responsibility. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit - be wise.
