Fred's Response

Success is one of the dominant themes in our society. It is important that we define it correctly. Certainly the scripture talks of those who are heroes of the faith as successful. It also gives many measurements of success such as maturity in Christ and well-done, thou good and faithful servant. I, personally, feel most successful when I am being used by God. I was referring to secular success that we hear so much about in the world, promoted by speakers and writers as the end-all goal of life. I didn’t mean to say that the Christian cannot experience success. But it is not their ultimate goal. This is the difference. I oppose success that produces arrogance which is really independence from God. I support success that is seen as a by-product not the sole goal.
