Dear Fred

What are the elements of personal development?

Fred's Response

First, you must have a desire for progress. Then select areas of possible progress and work out a plan to achieve this progress. I like to think personal development as making a climb then plateauing for assimilation of what you have accomplished and then starting another process continuing this process throughout life. At ninety-one I still must have a climb to make and accept the plateaus of life as times of assimilation. Common elements of growth have been to me first association with the kind of people I want to become. Then reading to make what Bacon called a “full man.” Writing makes an exact one. So reading, writing and association are important elements for self development.
